THE AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR ENOLOGY AND VITICULTURE-EASTERN SECTION (ASEV-ES) IS A NONPROFIT THAT FOSTERS THE GROWTH AND LONGEVITY OF THE U.S. GRAPE AND WINE INDUSTRY BY PROVIDING A PLATFORM FOR RESEARCH, COLLABORATION, AND EDUCATION FOR PROFESSIONALS FROM WINERIES, VINEYARDS, ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS, AND ORGANIZATIONS FROM ACROSS THE U.S. AND CANADA. ASEV-ES HOSTS AN ANNUAL CONFERENCE AT DIFFERENT LOCATIONS EACH YEAR WITHIN OUR GEOGRAPHICAL AREA, AND IN 2023, WE WILL HOST THE 47TH ANNUAL ASEV-ES CONFERENCE JUNE 7-9 IN AUSTIN, TX. THE CONFERENCE WILL INCLUDE A PRECONFERENCE TOUR OF TEXAS VINEYARDS AND WINERIES, TECHNICAL AND RESEARCH PRESENTATIONS, AND AN INDUSTRY WORKSHOP FEATURING INVITED SPEAKERS TO DISCUSS DROUGHTS TO FLOODS: GROWING GRAPES IN CHALLENGING ENVIRONMENTS.$25,000

**AWARDS ISSUED PRIOR TO JANUARY 20, 2025, WERE FUNDED UNDER PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATIONS AND MAY NOT REFLECT THE PRIORITIES AND POLICIES OF THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION.** THE AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR ENOLOGY AND VITICULTURE-EASTERN SECTION (ASEV-ES) IS A NONPROFIT THAT FOSTERS THE GROWTH AND LONGEVITY OF THE U.S. GRAPE AND WINE INDUSTRY BY PROVIDING A PLATFORM FOR RESEARCH, COLLABORATION, AND EDUCATION FOR PROFESSIONALS FROM WINERIES, VINEYARDS, ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS, AND ORGANIZATIONS FROM ACROSS THE U.S. AND CANADA. ASEV-ES HOSTS AN ANNUAL CONFERENCE AT DIFFERENT LOCATIONS EACH YEAR WITHIN OUR GEOGRAPHICAL AREA, AND IN 2024, WE WILL HOST THE 48TH ANNUAL ASEV-ES CONFERENCE JULY 9-11 IN CLEVELAND, OH. THE LOCATION WAS CHOSEN BECAUSE OHIO IS CELEBRATING ITS 50TH ANNIVERSARY AS A THRIVING GRAPE AND WINE INDUSTRY; A LANDMARK ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR AN EASTERN SECTION STATE/PROVINCE AND A USEFUL SHOWCASE TO ATTENDEES FROM OTHER ASEV-ES REGIONS. ASEV-ES IS COLLABORATING WITH FACULTY AND STAFF FROM THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY TO FACILITATE THIS EVENT. THE CONFERENCE WILL INCLUDE A TECHNICAL TOUR OF OHIO VINEYARDS AND WINERIES, TECHNICAL AND RESEARCH PRESENTATIONS, AND AN INDUSTRY WORKSHOP. AT EACH CONFERENCE, WE SELECT A THEME RELEVANT TO THE ISSUES IN THE GRAPE AND WINE INDUSTRY, ESPECIALLY THE HOSTING STATE. GRAPE AND WINE PRODUCTION IN MUCH OF THE MID-WEST [INCLUDING OHIO], SOUTH, AND EASTERN U.S. IS CHALLENGING DUE TO HEAVY DISEASE PRESSURE CAUSED BY COMPARATIVELY HIGH RAINFALL, AND HUMIDITY THAT CAN IMPACT FRUIT PRODUCTION AND QUALITY. IN ADDITION, THESE REGIONS FACE EMERGING AND EVOLVING PEST PRESSURES, SUCH AS THE SPOTTED LANTERNFLY AND PESTICIDE RESISTANCE. THEREFORE, THIS CONFERENCE WILL FOCUS ON INCREASINGLY IMPORTANT TOPIC OF PESTS AND OTHER BENEFICIAL SPECIES FROM VINES TO WINES, INCLUDING INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT, INSECT/PLANT INTERACTIONS, PLANT PRODUCTIVITY IN RESPONSE TO BIOTIC AND ABIOTIC STRESSORS, PREVENTING AND MANAGING UNDESIRABLE YEAST AND BACTERIA IN WINE PRODUCTION, BIOPROTECTANT STRATEGIES DURING WINEMAKING, AND MICROBIOME COMPOSITION DURING HEALTHY AND STRUGGLING FERMENTATIONS. THESE THEMES WILL CULMINATE IN AN INDUSTRY WORKSHOP FEATURING INVITED SPEAKERS TO DISCUSS SMALL ORGANISMS, BIG IMPACTS: EXPLORING THE ROLE OF MICROBES IN VINEYARD AND WINERY MANAGEMENT. OUR CONFERENCE PRIORITIZES THE USDA-AFRI PROGRAM A1112: PESTS AND BENEFICIAL SPECIES IN AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION SYSTEMS ENSURING SUSTAINABLE AGROECOSYSTEMS CRITICAL FOR WINE PRODUCTION FROM THE VINEYARD TO THE BOTTLE. ?$16,200
