ALBUQUERQUE PUBLIC HOUSING ELECTRIFICATION
THE ALBUQUERQUE HOUSING AUTHORITY (AHA) INTENDS TO REHABILITATE TWO EXISTING PUBLIC HOUSING PROPERTIES AT 120 LA PLATA ROAD NW AND 9000 VERANDA ROAD NE. THE LA PLATA AND VERANDA PROJECTS CONSIST OF REHABILITATION OF EXISTING 32-UNIT AND 35-UNIT PUBLIC HOUSING COMPLEXES, RESPECTIVELY. THE ELECTRIFICATION WILL BE PART OF THE REHABILITATION OF THE LA PLATA AND VERANDA PROJECTS. THE PROJECT WILL HAVE ONE (1) BUDGET PERIOD FOR THE LENGTH OF CONSTRUCTION (APPROXIMATELY NOVEMBER 2023 THROUGH DECEMBER 2024).
BOTH PROPERTIES HAVE OPERATED AS PUBLIC HOUSING SINCE THEY WERE PLACED IN SERVICE IN 1975 AND HAVE NOT BEEN SUBSTANTIALLY REHABILITATED IN THE LAST 48 YEARS. IN ADDITION TO SUPPORTING THE REHABILITATION OF MUCH NEEDED AFFORDABLE HOUSING GENERALLY, THE ELECTRIFICATION OF THE LA PLATA AND VERANDA PROPERTIES WILL INCREASE ENERGY EFFICIENCY, REDUCE CARBON EMISSIONS, AND PROVIDE A SAFER ALTERNATIVE TO GAS APPLIANCES. THE CONVERSION TO ALL-ELECTRIC PROPERTIES ALSO PROVIDES COST SAVINGS FOR THE LOW-INCOME RESIDENTS WHO PAY THEIR UTILITIES.
AS A PART OF THE ELECTRIFICATION OF THE TWO PROPERTIES, EACH UNIT WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING IMPROVEMENTS:
• REPLACEMENT OF ALL GAS FURNACES AND EVAPORATIVE COOLERS WITH HIGH EFFICIENCY ELECTRIC HEAT PUMP SYSTEMS
• REPLACEMENT OF ALL GAS WATER HEATERS WITH HIGH EFFICIENCY ELECTRIC HOT WATER HEATERS
• REPLACEMENT OF EXISTING REFRIGERATORS WITH ENERGY STAR CERTIFIED REFRIGERATORS
• REPLACEMENT OF SERVICE PANEL AND WIRING$1,700,000
