ALASKA ENERGYSHED TECH STACK LAUNCH ALASKA PROPOSES TO DEPLOY A ROBUST AND UNIQUE TECHNOLOGY PLATFORM THAT COLLECTS AND ANALYSES DATA NECESSARY TO IDENTIFY VIABLE LOCAL AND REGIONAL ENERGY PROJECTS IN COLLABORATION WITH ALASKA COMMUNITIES, REGIONAL NATIVE CORPORATIONS, AND TECHNICAL ADVISORS. THE PROJECT WILL DEVELOP LONG-TERM STRATEGIES FOR DEVELOPING REGIONAL POWER PROJECTS UTILIZING LOCALLY AVAILABLE ENERGY SOURCES, GAIN BROAD CONSENSUS FOR PROJECT PRIORITIES AND DEVELOPMENT PLANS, ACCELERATE LARGE-SCALE DEVELOPMENT AND DEPLOYMENT OF RENEWABLE ENERGY, AND SUPPORT AN EQUITABLE TRANSITION TO A DECARBONIZED ELECTRICITY SYSTEM IN ALASKA’S UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES. THIS PROJECT EXPECTS TO DEMONSTRATE THE POTENTIAL FOR UTILIZING A 3D VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENT POPULATED WITH DATA FROM A VARIETY OF DIGITAL TOOLS, SUCH AS UTILITY GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS), ADVANCED METERING INFRASTRUCTURE (AMI) SYSTEMS, OR OTHER ENTERPRISE SOFTWARE, AS A MEANS OF IMPROVING STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT AND EDUCATION, STRATEGIC IDENTIFICATION OF PLACE-BASED ENERGY PROJECT OPPORTUNITIES, AND THE AGGREGATION OF PROJECTS SUFFICIENT TO FINANCIALLY PACKAGE THEM FOR DEVELOPMENT. THESE GENERALIZED LESSONS REGARDING ENERGYSHEDS WILL ENABLE THE DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY (DOE) TO REPLICATE THE OUTCOMES OF THIS PROJECT IN OTHER GEOGRAPHIES, COMMUNITIES, AND CULTURES, AND ENSURE TRADITIONAL AND INSTITUTIONAL KNOWLEDGE IS CAPTURED, MAINTAINED, AND INCORPORATED. THE PROPOSED OBJECTIVE OF THIS APPLICATION FOR FUNDING IS TO DEPLOY USER-FRIENDLY TOOLS THAT ENABLE LONG-TERM STRATEGIES FOR DEVELOPING POWER PROJECTS UTILIZING LOCALLY AVAILABLE ENERGY SOURCES IN UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES. THE KEY OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROJECT IS TO DEVELOP THE WATER AND ALASKA VITAL ENERGY SYSTEMS (WAVES) PROGRAM TO IDENTIFY THE CHALLENGES OF DEVELOPING WATER POWER IN ALASKA. PHASE 1 WILL FUND LAUNCH ALASKA STAFF TIME TO IDENTIFY GAPS BETWEEN EMERGING WATER POWER TECHNOLOGIES AND PROJECT DEPLOYMENT IN ALASKA THROUGH STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT. PHASE II WILL BUILD ON THAT WORK BY CONTINUING TO FUND A POSITION THAT WILL WORK WITH BOTH INDUSTRY AND WATER POWER COMPANIES TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT TO TECHNOLOGIES WANTING TO WORK IN ALASKA BY PROVIDING A COMPREHENSIVE SUITE OF RESOURCES FOR WATER POWER STARTUPS THAT INCLUDE BESPOKE BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT SERVICES, SUCH AS MARKET ANALYSIS, REGULATORY GUIDANCE, MENTORSHIP AND NETWORKING. PHASE II WILL ALSO SUPPORT COMPANIES COMING TO ALASKA THROUGH THE TECH DEPLOYMENT TRACK TO MEET WITH POTENTIAL INVESTORS AND STRATEGIC PARTNERS.$100,000
