WE PROPOSE TO QUANTIFY THE RATES AND NATURE OF AEOLIAN TRANSPORT IN THE ARGENTINEAN PUNA AS AN ANALOG FOR AEOLIAN PROCESSES ON MARS. THE REGION HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY EXAMINED IN THE CONTEXT OF THE GRAVEL MEGARIPPLE FORMATION (E.G. DE SILVA ET AL. 2013; BRIDGES ET AL. 2015). WE HAVE SHOWN THAT GRAVEL-CAPPED BEDFORMS APPEAR TO BE EXTREME BY EARTH STANDARDS BUT HAVE MORPHOLOGIC AND DYNAMIC CHARACTERISTICS IN COMMON WITH TRANSVERSE AEOLIAN RIDGES (TARS) ON MARS AND MEGARIPPLES IN MERIDIANI REGION OF MARS. A MODEL (FIELD OBSERVATIONS INFORMED BY WIND TUNNEL EXPERIMENTS) FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THESE BEDFORMS WAS DEVELOPED AND SCALING CALCULATIONS TRANSLATED THE RESULTS TO MARS. THIS PREVIOUS EFFORT WAS LARGELY CHARACTERIZATION AND SEMI-QUANTITATIVE AND WE PROPOSE TO BUILD ON THIS WITH THE GOAL OF MORE RIGOROUSLY QUANTIFYING THEIR MORPHOLOGY AND THE PROCESSES AND WIND CHARACTERISTICS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PUNA GRAVEL BEDFORMS. IN PARTICULAR THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WIND AND ITS INTERACTION WITH THE BEDFORMS WERE NOT ADDRESSED IN PREVIOUS WORK.
