Abstract
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The luminescence of nm-sized gold beads is highly dependent on the interaction between the particle and its immediate surroundings. In this project we characterize and exploit the use of gold-beads as biological markers and address biophysical questions. Part 1 Identify photophysical properties of gold beads in various relevant environments. Part 2 Use gold-beads as biological markers for example in tracking experiments
