Abstract

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. We have cloned a novel gene, XCT, which is important for clock function and light signaling in plants. XCT is highly conserved across eukaryotes, is essential for development in metazoa, but has no known molecular function in any organism. We will use genetic and biochemical techniques in fission yeast and plants to determine the molecular mode of action of XCT.
