Abstract
Lehman College is an Hispanic Serving Institution and the only public college in the borough of the Bronx (pop. 1.2M), Lehman supports active research laboratories whicfh include undergraduate, masters and doctoral level students in its research programs. The research environment of the institution has blossomed as a result of MBRS SCORE funding. Lehman's active research laboratory teams have increased opportunities for underrepresented students to obtain the research experience necessary to continue their education and research careers. This S2 application, 9 full and 2 pilot research projects, will enhance the breadth and depth of Lehman's research teams in the biomedical sciences and offer Lehman students a wider range of research laboratories from which to select their mentors. Subproject Investigators are from the Departments of Anthropology, Biology, Psychology, Sociology, and Speech, Lanuage and Hearing Sciences. The proposed 3D Virtual and Solid Visualization Core Facility will extend individual and collaborative research efforts of SCORE faculty from Anthropology, Psychology and Biology, as well as, researcher collaborators from the Departments of Mathematics and Computer Science and Chemistry. The 3D Visualization Facility complements the recently funded Biological Imaging Facility and extends Lehman's research capabilities by combining standard visualization procedures with state of the art 3D imaging modalities. Two measures of the success of the Lehman SCORE program are an increase in the number of faculty publications and the number of RO1 and RO1-type grant applications submitted.
