Abstract

Resources from the University, the Department of Medicine and the Cancer Center were used to establish a Cancer Center Clinical Trials Core Facility (CTCF) and a Protocol Review and Monitoring System (PRMS) in July of 1993. The CTCF was organized to coordinate protocol design, activation, data management and analysis, as well as to assure a stable core of trained research nurses and data managers to coordinate patient accrual and the efficient collection of clinical research data (facilitated by the CPMC informatics system already in place for efficient data collection). The CTCF is currently housed in newly constructed space in the Milstein Hospital Building (MHB 6N-435) convenient to both in patient and outpatient units. This space houses research nurses, data managers, clinical investigators in Medical Oncology, and Dr. Andrea B. Troxel, Sc.D., a recently recruited biostatistician, trained in cancer clinical trials methodology at Harvard and University of Washington (SWOG). Facilities include a large conference room, duplicating machine and computer facilities with hard wire access to the Cancer Center Computing Facility.
