Abstract

Tuberculosis is one of the most important infections worldwide. Many strains of TB have been identified that are resistant to one or multiple drugs that are currently used in treatment. The investigators have established an M.tb. DNA and clinical isolate data bank that contains specimens of pan, mono- and multiple drug resistant TB. They have identified strains which do not have any mutations in the known hot spots of genes associated with drug resistance to TB. They intend to utilize molecular biological techniques to identify new loci for drug resistance. The Core Laboratory was utilized for DNA Isolation, DNA sequencing (manual), oligonucleotide synthesis, PCR, and Recombinant DNA techniques.
