** AWARDS ISSUED PRIOR TO JANUARY 20, 2025, WERE FUNDED UNDER PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATIONS AND MAY NOT REFLECT THE PRIORITIES AND POLICIES OF THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION.** A HEALTHY DIET IS ASSOCIATED WITH REDUCED RISK FOR PREVENTABLE HEALTH CONDITIONS SUCH AS CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE, DIABETES, AND SEVERAL CANCERS. CURRENTLY, THE BURDEN OF THESE CONDITIONS IN THE US BRINGS MAJOR HEALTHCARE COSTS AS WELL AS DIMINISHED QUALITY OF LIFE. POPULATIONS OF A HISPANIC ETHNICITY ARE THE LARGEST AND FASTEST-GROWING MINORITY GROUP IN THE US. HISPANIC POPULATIONS AREDIVERSE ACROSS CULTURES, AGE, AND GEOGRAPHIES. GIVEN DIFFERENCES AND THE IMPACT THAT CULTUREAND OTHER FACTORS HAVE ON DIET, THERE IS A NEED FOR ADAPTED PROGRAMS SPECIFIC TO THE NEEDS OF HISPANIC COMMUNITIES. PROGRAM AND RESOURCE ADAPTATIONS MAY TAKE A PRECISION NUTRITION APPROACH THAT CONSIDERS FACTORS SUCH AS CULTURAL VALUES, BELIEFS, AND THE ENVIRONMENTTO ADDRESS DIET QUALITY AND FOOD SECURITY. THE HEALTHY LIVING FOR HISPANIC COMMUNITIES USDA NUTRITION HUB AT THE TEXAS A&M INSTITUTE FOR ADVANCING HEALTH THROUGH AGRICULTURE WILL BUILD A SEARCHABLE ONLINE REPOSITORY OF EXISTING COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAMS THAT HAVE BEEN CULTURALLY TAILORED FOR HISPANIC POPULATIONS AND SUBPOPULATIONS. THE HUB WILL ALSO CONVENE PARTNERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY, IN THE FORM OF A STEERING COMMITTEE,TO IDENTIFY GAPS IN THE PROGRAMS AND RESOURCES, ANDTOGUIDE THE DEVELOPMENT OF INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS, COURSES, INTERNSHIPS, AND OTHER RESOURCES THAT WILL BE ADDED TO THE REPOSITORY. THESE ADAPTED PROGRAMS ANDRESOURCES WILL BE PROMOTED ACROSS UNIVERSITIES, COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS, PUBLIC HEALTH SYSTEMS, STUDENTS, AND OTHER ENTITIESWITHIN THE STATE OF TEXAS AND THROUGHOUT THE US. THE OVERARCHING GOALISTO HELP ADVANCE FOOD AND NUTRITION SECURITY, IMPROVE HEALTH, AND REDUCE THE BURDEN OF CHRONIC DISEASES, PARTICULARLY TAILORED TO MEET THE NEEDS OF DIVERSE HISPANIC POPULATIONS.
