**AWARDS ISSUED PRIOR TO JANUARY 20, 2025, WERE FUNDED UNDER PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATIONS AND MAY NOT REFLECT THE PRIORITIES AND POLICIES OF THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION.** AGRICULTURAL ANTIBIOTIC CONTAMINATION FROM ANTHROPOGENIC USE IS WIDESPREAD, WHERE THEY CAN SPREAD THROUGH MANURE AMENDMENTS TO SOIL AS WELL AS THROUGH WIND-BORNE ANTIBIOTIC DEPOSITION. IN THE UNITED STATES, LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION CONSUMED 11 MILLION KG OF ANTIBIOTICS IN 2017 ALONE, AND UP TO 90% OF THE DOSES GIVEN TO LIVESTOCK ENTER THE ENVIRONMENT AS UN-METABOLIZED AND BIOLOGICALLY ACTIVE COMPOUNDS THROUGH FECES AND/OR URINE. THE PROJECT INVESTIGATES THE POTENTIALLY IMPORTANT, BUT UNDER-STUDIED, ROLE AGRICULTURAL ANTIBIOTIC INPUTS HAVE ON SOIL ECOSYSTEMS. ADDITIONALLY, THIS RESEARCH SEEKS TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE SUSCEPTIBILITY OF PARTICULAR SOIL COMMUNITIES AND SOIL FUNCTIONS TO ANTIBIOTIC PERTURBATION AND CLIMATE CHANGE. THISSTUDY WILL BE THE FIRST TO EXAMINE THE EFFECTS OF ANTIBIOTICS INPUTS IN A SOIL WARMING FIELD EXPERIMENT. THE RESULTS GAINED FROM THIS RESEARCH WILL LEAD TO A MORE COMPLETE UNDERSTANDING OF THE FULL POTENTIAL IMPACT ANTIBIOTIC INPUTS HAVE ON SOIL COMMUNITY STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION, AND THEIR IMPLICATIONS TO PROPERLY MANAGE OUR SOIL OPTIMIZING AGRICULTURAL PRACTICES.TO ASSESS THE EFFECTS OF AGRICULTURAL ANTIBIOTICS AND CLIMATE CHANGE, MICROBIAL EFFICIENCY WILL BE MEASURED TO QUANTIFY THEIR IMPACTS ON THE SOIL CARBON DYNAMICS AS WELL AS QUANTIFYING THE AMOUNT OF ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANT GENES CONTRIBUTED BY ANTIBIOTIC INPUTS. FURTHERMORE, THE SOIL COMMUNITY WILL BE ASSESSED FOR CHANGES IN THEIR COMPOSITION. ULTIMATELY, ALL OF THESE ASSESSMENTS WILL DETERMINE THE IMPACTOF AGRICULTURAL ANTIBIOTICS ON THE SOIL, AND WILL PROMOTE A MORE SUSTAINABLE AGRICUTURAL MANAGEMENT.
