**AWARDS ISSUED PRIOR TO JANUARY 20, 2025, WERE FUNDED UNDER PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATIONS AND MAY NOT REFLECT THE PRIORITIES AND POLICIES OF THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION.** AGRO-ECOLOGICAL PRACTICES CAN PLAY A CRITICAL ROLE FOR CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION AND MITIGATION BY ENHANCING SOIL AND CROP HEALTH, NECESSARY TO MAINTAIN YIELDS IN UNFAVORABLE CLIMATE CONDITIONS, WHILE REDUCING MANAGEMENT INPUTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS COMPARED TO CONVENTIONAL FARMING. WIDE-SPREAD ADOPTION OF AGRO-ECOLOGICAL PRACTICES, HOWEVER, IS HAMPERED BY THE CHALLENGE OF QUANTITATIVELY DETECTING AND EVALUATING THEIR OUTCOMES ACCROSS THE DIFFERENT SOILSAND CLIMATESAND AT SCALES RELEVANT FOR RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AND POLICY. THIS PROJECT WILL HARNESS THEINFORMATION PROVIDED BY SATELLITES TOUNDERSTANDCLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION BENEFITS OF GROWING DIVERSE CROPS IN THE SAME FIELD, IN TERMS OF REDUCING DROUGHT VULNERABILITY AND RISKS COMPARED TOCONVENTIONAL MONOCROPPING. ULTIMATELY, THIS PROJECT AIMS TO INFORM POLICY AND INCENTIVIZE SUSTAINABLEMANAGEMENT DECISIONS BY ENGAGING WITH AGRO-ECOLOGICAL ORGANIZATIONS AND PRODUCING MAPS AND MODELS THAT QUANTIFY WHERE AND TO WHAT EXTENT DIVERSIFIED CROPPING SYSTEMS ARE EFFECTIVE CLIMATE-SMART SOLUTIONS.
