**AWARDS ISSUED PRIOR TO JANUARY 20, 2025, WERE FUNDED UNDER PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATIONS AND MAY NOT REFLECT THE PRIORITIES AND POLICIES OF THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION.** EVEN THOUGH NUTRITION PLAYS A VITAL ROLE IN MITIGATING EFFECTS OF BIOTIC AND ABIOTIC STRESSORS ON BEES, POOR NUTRITION IS ONE OF THE MAJOR FACTORS IMPLICATED IN HONEY BEE AND NATIVE BEE DECLINES OVER THE PAST DECADE. IN ADDITION, CLIMATE CHANGE IS STEADILY CONTRIBUTING TO UNCERTAIN WEATHER PATTERNS. OUR OVERALL PROJECT GOAL IS TO UNDERSTAND THE EFFECTS CLIMATE CHANGE CAN HAVE ON PLANT POLLEN AND NECTAR (QUALITY AND QUANTITY), OVERALL YIELD, AND POTENTIAL POLLINATION MISMATCH. OUR SEED PROPOSAL IS INTERDISCIPLINARY, UNIQUE AND THE SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES ARE: (1) EVALUATE THE IMPACTS OF HEAT AND DROUGHT STRESS ON POLLEN NUTRITIONAL QUALITY AND VIABILITY FROM CONTROL AND STRESS-TREATED SOYBEAN AND WHITE CLOVER PLANTS; (2) EVALUATE THE IMPACTS OF HEAT AND DROUGHT ON NECTAR QUANTITY AND QUALITY FROM THESE CONTROL AND STRESS-TREATED PLANTS; (3) PRELIMINARY OBSERVATIONS ON POLLINATION MISMATCH; (4) EVALUATE THE PHENOLOGY, GROWTH, AND PHYSIOLOGY OF THE CONTROL AND STRESS-TREATED PLANTS. OUR SEEDPROPOSAL WILL EXPLORE MULTIPLE FACETS OF HOW CLIMATE CHANGE CAN AFFECT VITAL COMPONENTS OF BEE FORAGE PLANTS AND WE WILL INVESTIGATE HOW SUCH STRESSORS SHAPE BEE FORAGE QUALITY AND QUANTITY. OUR PROPOSAL ADDRESSES IMPORTANT PRIORITY AREAS OF THE FUNDING OPPORTUNITY, SUCH AS HOW ABIOTIC FACTORS AFFECT BEE POLLINATION AND THE QUALITY AND QUANTITY OF FORAGE THEY DEPEND ON. WITH THE DATA GENERATED FROM THIS SEED GRANT, WE WILL APPLY FOR LARGER MULTI-YEAR GRANTS TO INVESTIGATE THE IMPACTS OF ADDITIONAL ABIOTIC STRESSORS, SUCH AS SALINITY AND FLOODING, USING LARGER FIELD EXPERIMENTS.
