**AWARDS ISSUED PRIOR TO JANUARY 20, 2025, WERE FUNDED UNDER PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATIONS AND MAY NOT REFLECT THE PRIORITIES AND POLICIES OF THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION.** POLY- AND PERFLUOROALKYL SUBSTANCES (PFAS) ARE THOUSANDS OF SYNTHETIC COMPOUNDS THAT HAVE BECOME UBIQUITOUS IN THE ENVIRONMENT AND ARE CONSIDERED CONTAMINANTS OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERN (CEC). PFAS CONTAMINATION, THROUGH THE APPLICATION OF CONTAMINATED BIOSOLIDS AND IRRIGATION WATER, HAS BECOME A PROBLEM IN THE MANAGEMENT OF AGRICULTURAL SOILS. ALTHOUGH IT HAS BEEN DEMONSTRATED THAT DISSOLVED ORGANIC MATTER (DOM) SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECTS THE ADSORPTION OF PFAS ON SYNTHETIC ADSORBENTS FOR WATER REMEDIATION, DOM'S ROLE IN PFAS TRANSPORT IN SOILS IS GENERALLY OVERLOOKED. THE OVERARCHING GOAL OF THE PROPOSED SEED PROJECT IS TO CONSTRUCT A REACTIVE TRANSPORT MODEL THAT WILL INCLUDE THE PARAMETERIZATION OF MOLECULAR INDICES OF DOM DERIVED FROM COMMON ORGANIC AMENDMENTS. THE MODEL WILL BE APPLIED FOR SELECTED KEY PFAS, INCLUDING SHORT- AND LONG-CHAIN PERFLUORO CARBOXYLIC AND SULFONIC ACIDS.
