** AWARDS ISSUED PRIOR TO JANUARY 20, 2025, WERE FUNDED UNDER PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATIONS AND MAY NOT REFLECT THE PRIORITIES AND POLICIES OF THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION.** THE LONG-TERM GOAL OF THE NEVADA MEAT SCIENCE WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM IS TO CREATE A SAFE AND RESILIENT MEAT AND POULTRY WORKFORCE TO SUPPORT NEVADA'S ENTREPRENEURS CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION OF FIVE NEW MEAT PLANTS IN THE STATE EXPECTED TO OPEN IN 2023. THIS PROJECT WILL ESTABLISH A WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA, RENO COLLABORATING WITH OUR COMMUNITY COLLEGE SYSTEM IN NEVADA. THE PROGRAM WILL UTILIZE DISTANCE EDUCATION BASED OUT OF THE COMMUNITY COLLEGES FOR 6 CREDITS, AND A HANDS-ON INTERNSHIP PROGRAM AT LOCAL MEAT PLANTS, THE EXTENSION MOBILE HARVEST UNIT, AND THE WOLF PACK MEATS FACILITY, FOR 6 CREDITS, TO PROVIDE A 12-CREDIT TECHNICAL CERTIFICATION AND/OR A 12-CREDIT ENDORSEMENT OF STUDENTS TRANSCRIPTS. PARTICIPANTS WILL BE THOSE IN THE MEAT INDUSTRY, CURRENT STUDENTS, AND NEW STUDENTS INTERESTED IN THIS VOCATION. UNDER THE THREE-YEAR IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS PROGRAM IT IS EXPECTED THAT THERE WILL BE 40 PARTICIPANTS A YEAR, FOR A TOTAL OF 120 GRADUATES BY 2026. IT IS EXPECTED THAT 40% OF THESE PARTICIPANTS WILL WORK IN A NEVADA MEAT SLAUGHTER OR PROCESSING PLANT, MANAGE A PLANT, OR PROVIDE SALES FOR THESE PLANTS.
