INDIANA FARMWORKERS EXPERIENCED DEVASTATING INFECTION RATES AND DEATHS FROM COVID- 19, A REALITY OFTEN NEGATIVELY IMPACTING FARMERS AND RURAL COMMUNITIES. NONPROFIT AND GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS ARE VITAL TO FARMWORKER WELLBEING; HOWEVER, LITTLE IS KNOWN ABOUT THEIR ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSE DURING DISASTERS. THIS PROPOSED PROJECT'S GOAL IS TO IMPROVE THE RESPONSE OF FARMWORKER-SERVING ORGANIZATIONS IN THE FACE OF ONGOING AND FUTURE DISASTERS SO THAT FARMWORKERS, FARMWORKER-SERVING ORGANIZATIONS, AND THE AGRICULTURAL SYSTEM AS A WHOLE CAN BE MORE RESILIENT IN THE FACE OF INCREASING SOCIAL-ECOLOGICAL CHANGE AND DISASTERS. AN INTERDISCIPLINARY, SOCIAL SCIENCE APPROACH WILL ADDRESS THE FOLLOWING OBJECTIVES: (1) DETERMINE THE CHALLENGES FARMWORKERS FACED DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND HOW THEY PERCEIVE THE RESPONSES FROM FARMWORKER-SERVING ORGANIZATIONS, (2) OUTLINE ONGOING SOCIAL-ECOLOGICAL CHALLENGES AND VULNERABILITIES THAT MIGRANT AND SEASONAL FARMWORKERS EXPERIENCE, AND (3) IDENTIFY MECHANISMS THROUGH WHICH FARMWORKER-SERVING ORGANIZATIONS CAN IMPROVE THEIR EFFECTIVENESS AND BETTER SERVE FARMWORKERS IN INDIANA AND POTENTIALLY THE MIDWEST IN THE FACE OF FUTURE CRISES. SURVEYS WITH FARMWORKERS, WEBINARS FOR ORGANIZATIONAL PROFESSIONALS, AND ONE FARMWORKER WORKSHOP WILL BE CONDUCTED IN COLLABORATION WITH AN ADVISORY COMMITTEE OF REPRESENTATIVES FROM INDIANA FARMWORKER-SERVING ORGANIZATIONS. THIS RESEARCH ALIGNS WELL WITH AFRI'S PRIORITY AREAS OFAGRICULTURE ECONOMICS AND RURAL COMMUNITIESANDFOOD SAFETY, NUTRITION, AND HEALTH. IN PARTICULAR, IMPROVING FARMWORKER-SERVING ORGANIZATIONS' RESPONSE WILL DECREASE FARMWORKER VULNERABILITIES AND INCREASE THE RESILIENCY AND WELLBEING OF FARMERS AND RURAL COMMUNITIES WHERE FARMWORKERS OFTEN RESIDE.
