**AWARDS ISSUED PRIOR TO JANUARY 20, 2025, WERE FUNDED UNDER PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATIONS AND MAY NOT REFLECT THE PRIORITIES AND POLICIES OF THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION.** CROP PATHOGENS HAVE DEVASTING IMPACTS ON AGRICULTUREAND THEY ARE ONE OF THE LEADING CAUSES OF YIELD LOSS GLOBALLY. MANY CROP DISEASES ARE CARRIED BY INSECTS AND TRANSMITTED FROM PLANT TO PLANT WHEN INSECTS FEED WITHIN FARMS. CONTROL OF THESE INSECTS CAN BE EXPENSIVE AND INSECTICIDES MUST BE APPLIED AT JUST THE RIGHT TIME TO PREVENT INSECTS FROM TRANSMITTING THE DISEASES. IF FARMERS AND EXTENSION AGENTS CAN KNOW EXACTLY WHEN A PATHOGEN-CARRYING INSECT WILL ARRIVE TO A CROP, THEY CAN BOTH PREVENT INFECTION AND AVOID UNNECESSARY SPRAYING. IN THIS PROJECT, WE WILL TRY TO COLLECT LARGE-SCALE INFORMATION (BIG DATA) ON PEA APHIDS AND VIRUSES, TWO IMPORTANT PESTS IN PULSE CROPS. USING THESE DATA, WE WILL BUILD AN ALGORITHM THAT WORKS LIKE A WEATHER FORECAST. THIS FORECAST WILL TELL USERS WHEN APHIDS ARE EXPECTED TO ARRIVE IN CROPS DURING THE GROWING SEASON. THE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT IS TO NOT ONLY TO MAKE SURE THIS FORECAST IS ACCURATE AND RELIABLE, BUT ALSO TO ENSURE IT IS AVAILABLE ONLINE FOR ANY USERS MAKING MANAGEMENT DECISIONS IN PULSE CROPS. THE SOFTWARE PIPELINE (COMPUTER CODE AND STATISTICAL METHODS) WILL ALSO BE MADE AVAILABLE FOR OTHER AGRICULTURAL SCIENTISTS TO USE IN DIFFERENT CROPPING SYSTEMS.
