**AWARDS ISSUED PRIOR TO JANUARY 20, 2025, WERE FUNDED UNDER PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATIONS AND MAY NOT REFLECT THE PRIORITIES AND POLICIES OF THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION.** EXOSOMES ARE NATURAL NANOPARTICLES THAT ARE PRESENT IN MILK IN HIGH CONCENTRATIONS. THE PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY HAS DEVELOPED AN INTEREST IN USING MILK EXOSOMES TO DELIVER DRUGS (THERAPEUTICS) TO DISEASED, HARD-TO-REACH TISSUES SUCH AS BRAIN TUMORS. THIS PROJECT SEEKS TO MODIFY MILK EXOSOMES TO ENHANCE THEIR NATURAL ABILITY TO ACCUMULATE IN BRAIN TUMORS. THE LONG-TERM GOAL OF THIS RESEARCH IS TO DEVELOP A COW THAT PRODUCES MILK EXOSOMES WITH PROPERTIES OPTIMIZED FOR DRUG DELIVERY TO BRAIN TUMORS. DAIRY FARMERS IN THE U.S. MAY BENEFIT FROM THIS RESEARCH BY GAINING ACCESS TO COWS THAT PRODUCE VALUE-ADDED MILK FOR USE IN PHARMACEUTICAL APPLICATIONS.
