** AWARDS ISSUED PRIOR TO JANUARY 20, 2025, WERE FUNDED UNDER PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATIONS AND MAY NOT REFLECT THE PRIORITIES AND POLICIES OF THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION.** THE MAJORITY OF THE CHILDREN AND ADULTS IN THE US DO NOT MEET THE RECOMMENDED INTAKES FOR FV, WHOLE GRAIN, BEANS AND LEGUMES, AND DAIRY, AND OVER-CONSUME HIGH ENERGY-DENSE FOODS AND SWEETENED BEVERAGES. THE LACK OF ADHERENCE TO THESE RECOMMENDATIONS IS POSITIVELY ASSOCIATED WITH INCREASED BODY WEIGHT AND OBESITY RISK. PREVENTION IS THE KEY TO REDUCING THE RISK FOR OBESITY AND RELATED CHRONIC DISEASE. THE FAMILY PROVIDES THE ENVIRONMENT AND SUPPORT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF HEALTHY DIETARY BEHAVIORS CRITICAL TO OBESITY AND CHRONIC DISEASE PREVENTION. WE PROPOSE TO ADD A FEEDING COMPONENT TO AN AWARD WINNING NUTRITION EDUCATION PROGRAM (EATING SMART * BEING ACTIVE) THAT IS CURRENTLY BEING USED IN FORTY-FOUR STATES. TEACHING PARENTAL FEEDING IN ADDITION TO NUTRITION EDUCATION IS LIKELY TO BE AN EFFECTIVE APPROACH TO PREVENTION OF OBESITY AND CHRONIC DISEASES IN BOTH PARENTS AND THEIR CHILDREN. ADDITIONALLY, FOOD PROVISION PROGRAMS SUCH AS FOOD RX CAN HELP IMPROVE HOME FOOD AVAILABILITY AND FOOD SECURITY AMONG LOW-INCOMES HOUSEHOLDS. INTEGRATING THESE COMPONENTS INTO EXISTING NUTRITION EDUCATION INFRASTRUCTURES THAT EFFECTIVELY REACH PARENTS WITH LOW-INCOMES MAXIMIZES THE POTENTIAL IMPACTS OF THIS STUDY ON DIETARY BEHAVIORS AND OBESITY AND CHRONIC DISEASE RISK.?
