ABILITY OF AGRICULTURE TO SUPPLY AN ABUNDANCE OF INEXPENSIVE FOOD IS INTERCONNECTED TO SCIENCE. YET, TWO-THIRDS OF 2019 HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES, WHO COMPLETED THE ACT, DID NOT MEET COLLEGE READINESS SCIENCE BENCHMARKS, AND AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE IS NOT CONSIDERED AN ATTRACTIVE CAREER OPTION DESPITE SHORTAGE OF GRADUATES FOR AGRICULTURAL CAREER OPPORTUNITIES. GIVEN SALE OF LIVESTOCK AND ANIMAL PRODUCTS GENERATED $177 BILLION (2018), AND 17,000 YOUTH (NEBRASKA) WERE ENROLLED IN 4-H LIVESTOCK PROJECTS (2019); IT APPEARS NATURAL TO USE ANIMAL SCIENCE TO STIMULATE INTEREST AND ENGAGE YOUTH IN SCIENCE, IMPERATIVE FOR LONG-TERM AGRICULTURAL SUSTAINABILITY. THIRTY-TWO SCIENCE AND AGRICULTURE TEACHERS FROM NEBRASKA AND TENNESSEE WILL PARTICIPATE IN A SCIENCE AND AGRICULTURE ACADEMY. TO EXPERIENCE INQUIRY-BASED LEARNING, TEACHERS WILL PLAY THE ROLE OF STUDENTS ENGAGING WITH SIX DIFFERENT INQUIRY-BASED LEARNING (IBL) ACTIVITIES THAT SHOWCASE A SPECIFIC DISCIPLINE OF ANIMAL SCIENCE SIMULTANEOUSLY DEMONSTRATING ONE BASIC SCIENTIFIC PRINCIPLE (BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY, PHYSICS) COMMERCIALLY APPLICABLE AND USED IN AGRICULTURE. INTERACTIVE VIRTUAL FIELD TRIPS AND INTERVIEWS RELATED TO EACH ACTIVITY SHOULD PIQUE STUDENT AWARENESS OF SCIENCE-BASED AGRICULTURAL CAREER OPPORTUNITIES. STUDENT LEARNING IMPACTS WILL BE EVALUATED UPON INCORPORATION OF IBL INTO THE CLASSROOM. GIVEN EXPERIENCE WITH IBL, EACH SCIENCE/AGRICULTURE TEACHER PAIR WILL CREATE THEIR OWN IBL ACTIVITY. IN TOTAL, 22 IBL ACTIVITIES WILL BE CREATED; ALL AVAILABLE ONLINE, OPEN-ACCESS. ONLINE VERSIONS WILL INCLUDE VIDEO INSTRUCTIONS, DEMONSTRATION, AND SAMPLE DATA TO CREATE A LIBRARY OF "GRAB AND GO" AGRICULTURAL, SCIENCE-BASED IBL ACTIVITIES FOR TEACHERS. BY TEACHING SCIENTIFIC CONCEPTS THROUGH AGRICULTURAL IBL ACTIVITIES, WE BRIDGE THE KNOWLEDGE GAP AND ENHANCE AGRICULTURAL LITERACY.
