THE MOLECULAR PROCESSES THAT CONTROL RESISTANCE TO MULTIPLE, UNRELATED HERBICIDE FAMILIES IN WEEDY BIOTYPES ARE POORLYUNDERSTOOD. THIS TYPE OF RESISTANCE REPRESENTS THE WORST CASE SCENARIO FOR US FARMERS SINCE THESE BIOTYPES MAY BE RESISTANT TOHERBICIDES NOT YET ON THE MARKET. THE PURPOSE OF OUR RESEARCH IS TO UNDERSTAND HOW THESE PROCESSES EVOLVE AND CONFER MULTIPLEHERBICIDE RESISTANCE. THE INCIDENCE AND IMPACT OF HERBICIDE RESISTANT WEEDS, ESPECIALLY THOSE WITH MULTIPLE RESISTANCE, CONTINUETO CREATE SEVERE AGRONOMIC PROBLEMS FOR AGRICULTURAL PRODUCERS. STUDIES OF THE RESISTANCE MECHANISMS WILL CONTRIBUTE TOSUCCESSFUL RESISTANCE PREVENTION AND MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES.
