THERE IS A CRITICAL NEED TO SHARE AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH DATA AMONG PRIVATE AND PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS AND PROVIDE UNBIASED ACCESSIBLE ANALYSES OF THESE DATA TO REALIZE THEIR MAXIMUM VALUE BY FARMERS, AGRONOMISTS, RESEARCHERS, INDUSTRY, AND SOCIETY. IN THIS PROJECT, WE PROPOSE TO CREATE A DATA REPOSITORY FOR EXISTING RESULTS FROM FIELD-SCALE REPLICATED ON-FARM TRIALS ON NITROGEN (N) MANAGEMENT COLLECTED BY FARMER NETWORKS ACROSS THE CORN BELT. THIS DATABASE WILL INCLUDE 6,537 INDIVIDUAL FIELD ASSESSMENTS WHICH HAVE NOT BEEN SUBJECT TO COMBINED OR AGGREGATE STATISTICAL AND ECONOMIC ANALYSES. THE MOST VALUABLE INFORMATION FOR END USERS WILL BE GENERATED BY PAIRING THIS REPOSITORY WITH A WEB-BASED, PUBLICLY AVAILABLE, INTERACTIVE GRAPHICAL SUMMARY BASED ON ANALYSES OF THE REPOSITORY DATA, WHICH WILL MAKE GREAT ADVANCES TOWARD COMMUNICATING UNBIASED RESULTS AND GREATLY BENEFIT THE AGRICULTURAL COMMUNITY. OUR OBJECTIVES ARE TO: 1) DEVELOP A DATA REPOSITORY TO COMBINE, PREPARE, PROTECT AND SHARE DATA; AND 2) DEVELOP A DATA ANALYTICS FRAMEWORK TO ANALYZE AND COMMUNICATE RESULTS. THE PROJECT WILL DEVELOP AND EMPLOY BEST PROTOCOLS TO PROTECT DATA PRIVACY BY CREATING CUSTOM, RANDOMIZED MAP PROJECTIONS FOR THE SPATIAL DATA, WHICH WILL ANONYMIZE FIELD LOCATIONS AND THE VECTOR DATA CONNECTED TO THE FIELD LOCATIONS SUCH AS YIELD DATA, FARMER IDENTITY AND OTHER INFORMATION AND WILL MAKE IT AVAILABLE TO OTHER RESEARCHERS. THE POTENTIAL IMPACT OF THIS PROJECT IS THE GENERATION OF DATA-DRIVEN SOUND DECISION-AID TOOLS ACCESSIBLE TO FARMERS AND AGRONOMISTS WHICH WILL ALSO RESULT IN ECONOMICALLY AND ENVIRONMENTALLY SOUND PRACTICES BENEFITING SOCIETY AS A WHOLE.
