THE CORN BIOFUEL INDUSTRY GENERATES OVER 60 MILLION TONS OF DISTILLERS' GRAINS EACH YEAR, AND THERE IS A CRITICAL NEED TO EXPLORE THEIR NEW AND VALUE-ADDED USES. STRINGENT FDA REGULATIONS AND CONSUMERS' DESIRE FOR NATURAL INGREDIENTS AND ADDITIVES PUSH FOOD, PET FOOD, AND FEED INDUSTRIES TO SHIFT FROM SYNTHETIC TO MORE CLEAN-LABEL ANTIOXIDANTS. PEPTIDE AND PHENOLIC ANTIOXIDANTS FROM DISTILLERS' GRAINS ARE CAPABLE OF INHIBITING OIL/FAT OXIDATION, ALONG WITH THEIR INTRINSIC NUTRITIONAL AND NUTRACEUTICAL BENEFITS. THROUGH THIS PROJECT, WE WILL DEVELOP AN ENABLING TECHNOLOGY TO PRODUCE HIGH-PERFORMANCE ANTIOXIDANTS FROM CORN DISTILLERS' GRAINS AND ESTABLISH AN EXTENSION PROGRAM FOR THE POTENTIAL ADOPTION OF THE NEW TECHNOLOGY. THE NEW TECHNOLOGY UTILIZES MASSIVE BIOFUEL BYPRODUCTS AND ADDS VALUE TO AGRICULTURAL ORIGIN MATERIALS. THE VALUE-ADDED PRODUCTION OF PEPTIDE AND PHENOLIC ANTIOXIDANTS FROM DISTILLERS' GRAINS WILL ULTIMATELY ENHANCE THE ECONOMIC VIABILITY OF FUEL ETHANOL PRODUCTIONS FROM CORN AND OTHER GRAIN FEEDSTOCKS.
