CURRENTLY, HIGH SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY COLLEGE TEACHERS HAVE LIMITED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPOSURE TO AREAS IN AGRICULTURE EDUCATION SUCH AS FOOD SAFETY. CONSEQUENTLY, HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS HAVE LESS UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT AGRICULTURE AND FOOD SCIENCE REALLY ENCOMPASS AND ARE LESS LIKELY TO PURSUE ONE OF THESE AREAS AS A FUTURE CAREER. LIKEWISE, STUDENTS AT COMMUNITY COLLEGES MAY BE UNAWARE OF OPPORTUNITIES IN THESE FIELDS.THE GOALS FOR THE PROJECT ARE TO: 1) ESTABLISH A SATELLITE LAB IN CAESAR RODNEY HIGH SCHOOL TO GIVE TEACHERS HANDS ON EXPERIENCES IN FOOD SAFETY/MICROBIOLOGY. 2) OFFER CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE TO TEACHERS THAT ATTEND THE TRAINING SESSIONS TO INCORPORATE WHAT THEY HAVE LEARNED INTO THEIR CLASSROOMS 3) OFFER NETWORKING AND MENTORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES WITH FELLOW TEACHERS AND BUSINESSES IN THE LOCAL AREA AND 4) DEVELOP A MOLECULAR TECHNIQUES WORKSHOP FOR COMMUNITY COLLEGE TEACHERS TO LEARN ABOUT THE LATEST TECHNIQUES.THE IMPACT OF THE PROJECT IS TO ULTIMATELY INCREASE HIGH SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY COLLEGE TEACHERS' KNOWLEDGE AND EDUCATION IN AGRICULTURE AND FOOD SCIENCE. THIS WILL TRANSLATE INTO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH MORE INTEREST IN AGRICULTURE AND FOOD SCIENCE AS A FUTURE CAREER. IN ADDITION, STUDENTS AT A COMMUNITY COLLEGE WILL BE MADE AWARE OF THE AGRICULTURE AND FOOD SCIENCE PROGRAMS AND POTENTIALLY TRANSFER TO COMPLETE THEIR BACHELOR'S DEGREE.
