THE MAJORITY OF NEW CROP PLANTERS ARE CAPABLE OF HIGHLY ACCURATE VARIABLE RATE SEEDING (VRS), OR PLANTING DIFFERENT AMOUNTS OF SEED IN PREDETERMINED ZONES WITHIN A FIELD, BUT THE UTILITY OF THIS TECHNOLOGY HAS BEEN SEVERELY LIMITED DUE TO A LACK OF AGRONOMIC AND ECONOMIC INFORMATION. MUCH OF THE HESITATION FROM STAKEHOLDERS (MOSTLY FARMERS) COMES FROM UNANSWERED QUESTIONS REGARDING THE ECONOMIC RETURN FROM IMPLEMENTING A VRS "PRESCRIPTION." THEREFORE, THERE IS A CRITICAL NEED TO IMPROVE STAKEHOLDER DECISION-MAKING ABILITY REGARDING THE ECONOMICS AND AGRONOMIC ASPECTS OF VRS. THE OVERALL GOAL OF THIS PROJECT IS TO EMPOWER FARMERS TO MAKE AGRONOMICALLY- AND ECONOMICALLY SOUND DECISIONS REGARDING IMPLEMENTATION OF VRS TECHNOLOGY ON THEIR INDIVIDUAL FIELDS. FIELD RESEARCH TRIALS EXAMINING VRS IN CORN AND SOYBEAN WILL BE USED TO GENERATE TOOLS TO HELP PRODUCERS IN THEIR DECISION MAKING PROCESSES ON ADOPTING VRS TECHNOLOGY. ADDITIONALLY, THREE TO FIVE LEARNING MODULES WILL BE GENERATED TO ASSIST IN STAKEHOLDER DECISION-MAKING REGARDING THIS PRODUCTION PRACTICE. WIDESPREAD RELEASE AND DISSEMINATION OF THESE MODULES WILL LEAD TO INCREASED ADOPTION OF SOUND VRS PRACTICES, ULTIMATELY LEADING TO ENHANCED SUSTAINABILITY THOUGH IMPROVED UTILIZATION OF MODERN TECHNOLOGY.
