WE PROPOSE TO DEPLOY OUR STRATOSPHERIC WHOLE AIR SAMPLER (WAS) ON THE NASA WB-57 AIRCRAFT DURING THE UPCOMING ASIAN SUMMER MONSOON CHEMICAL AND CLIMATE IMPACTS PROJECT (ACCLIP). ACCLIP IS A COORDINATED RESEARCH PROGRAM OF AIRBORNE BALLOON GROUND BASED AND SUPPORTING SATELLITE MEASUREMENTS. THE PROJECT WILL UTILIZE THESE MEASUREMENTS IN STATE-OF-THE-ART GLOBAL AND PROCESS MODELS TO EXAMINE THE REGIONAL AND GLOBAL CONSEQUENCES TO ATMOSPHERIC CHEMISTRY AND CLIMATE OF THE MONSOON CIRCULATION AND OUTFLOW. WITHOUT THE WAS THE CURRENT WB-57 PAYLOAD HAS A LIMITED SUITE OF TRACERS TO CHARACTERIZE EMISSION SOURCES AND ATMOSPHERIC CHEMICAL PROCESSES. THE WAS ADDS CRITICAL MEASUREMENTS OF A WIDE RANGE OF ORGANIC TRACE GASES THAT ADD INSIGHT INTO POTENTIAL SOURCE REGIONS OF ASIAN MONSOON OUTFLOW ALLOWS QUANTITATIVE ASSESSMENT OF THE ORGANIC HALOGEN PERTURBATION IN THE UT/LS AND MEASURES GASES THAT PROVIDE EVALUATION OF IN SITU CHEMICAL PROCESSING. WITH SUPPORT FROM THE NSF WE WILL ALSO OPERATE A WHOLE AIR SAMPLER ON THE NCAR GV AIRCRAFT WHICH WILL BE COORDINATED WITH THE WB-57. THE ADDITION OF THE WAS TO THE WB-57 THUS ADDS CRITICAL DATA TO CHARACTERIZE ATMOSPHERIC CHEMISTRY OVER A WIDE ALTITUDE AND GEOGRAPHIC RANGE FOR ENHANCED DATA SYNTHESIS. THE ADDITION OF WAS TO THE WB57 PAYLOAD FOR ACCLIP SUPPORTS NASA GOALS TO ADDRESS SCIENTIFIC QUESTIONS RELATED TO UNDERSTANDING AND IMPROVING PREDICTIVE CAPABILITY FOR CHANGES IN THE OZONE LAYER CLIMATE FORCING AND AIR QUALITY ASSOCIATED WITH CHANGES IN ATMOSPHERIC COMPOSITION. THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE WAS DURING ACCLIP OFFERS A SINGULAR OPPORTUNITY TO EXPAND AND ENHANCE THE SCIENTIFIC RESULTS OF THE MISSION BY PROVIDING MEASUREMENTS OF LONG- AND SHORT-LIVED ORGANIC TRACE GASES THAT ARE ASSOCIATED WITH THE ASIAN SUMMER MONSOON AND ASSOCIATED CIRCULATIONS.
