THE OCO MISSIONS SET OUT TO COLLECT AN UNPRECEDENTED OBSERVATIONAL DATA SET OF ATMOSPHERIC CO2 TO TRANSFORM OUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE CARBON CYCLE. EXCHANGES BETWEEN THE ATMOSPHERE TERRESTRIAL BIOSPHERE AND OCEAN REMAIN ESSENTIAL CONTROLS THAT ARE DYNAMICALLY RESPONDING TO THE HUMAN PERTURBATION TO THE SYSTEM. ANTHROPOGENIC EMISSIONS DRIVE THE GLOBAL CARBON PERTURBATION AND WE INCREASINGLY NEED BETTER OBSERVATIONAL CONSTRAINTS ON EMISSIONS MAGNITUDES AND CONTROLLING PROCESSES FOR BOTH FUNDAMENTAL CARBON CYCLE SCIENCE AS WELL AS TO PROVIDE ACTIONABLE SOCIETAL INFORMATION. IN THIS PROPOSAL WE FOCUS OUR EFFORTS ON THE ANTHROPOGENIC PERTURBATION. IN WORK PROPOSED HERE WITH OCO OBSERVATIONS THE PLAN IS TO: 1) LEVERAGE THESE ADVANCES TO RIGOROUSLY QUERY HOW CO2 EMISSIONS RELATE TO URBAN DENSITY CITY ARCHETYPE POLICY AND SOCIETAL ACTIONS (E.G. COVID-19 RESPONSE). 2) DEVELOP NEW APPROACHES TO EXTEND THE DATA RECORD AND ATTRIBUTE EMISSIONS TO SPECIFIC SUB-CITY-LEVEL REGIONS AND ECONOMIC SECTORS USING BOTH MULTI-SPECIES APPROACHES (CO2 CO NO2) AS WELL AS DIFFERENT TIME OF DAY OBSERVATIONS. THE PROPOSED PROJECT WILL ANALYZE OCO-2 AND OCO-3 DATA SETS TO IMPROVE OUR UNDERSTANDING OF ANTHROPOGENIC CO2 EMISSIONS. THE PLANNED PROPOSAL WILL COMBINE OCO XCO2 OBSERVATIONS WITH OCO SIF OBSERVATIONS TO ADDRESS THE URBAN BIOSPHERE. FINALLY WE WILL COMBINE OCO OBSERVATIONS WITH MEASUREMENTS MADE FROM TROPOMI (CO AND NO2) AS WELL AS PLAN FOR FUTURE CONSIDERATION OF TEMPO AND GEOCARB OBSERVATIONS.
