ACCRETING SUPER-MASSIVE BLACK HOLES AT THE CENTERS OF GALAXIES CAN LAUNCH WIDE ANGLE WINDS WHICH ARE POWERFUL ENOUGH TO DISPLACE THE GAS FROM THE HOST GALAXY. IN THEIR INTERACTION WITH THE INTERSTELLAR MEDIUM THESE WINDS SHOULD GENERATE A STRONG SHOCK SIMILAR TO THOSE OBSERVED IN SUPERNOVA REMNANTS.
