SINCE THE 1980S BUSINESSES EDUCATORS AND POLICY EXPERTS HAVE BEEN IDENTIFYING 21ST CENTURY SKILLS AND CRAFTING RESOURCES FOR THEIR DEVELOPMENT. IN 2012 THE NATIONAL EDUCATION ASSOCIATION PUBLISHED "PREPARING 21ST CENTURY STUDENTS FOR A GLOBAL SOCIETY: AN EDUCATOR'S GUIDE TO THE FOUR CS." THE FOUR CS ARE CRITICAL THINKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING COMMUNICATION COLLABORATION AND CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION. IN THE 2012 NEA GUIDE THE GLOBAL LEARNING AND OBSERVATIONS TO BENEFIT THE ENVIRONMENT (GLOBE) PROGRAM WAS CITED AS ONE OF THE EXAMPLES OF A PROGRAM THAT FOSTERED COLLABORATION. GLOBE IS AN INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE EDUCATION PROGRAM THAT ENGAGES K-12 STUDENTS AND TEACHERS IN COLLECTING SUBMITTING AND ANALYZING ENVIRONMENTAL DATA INCLUDING SURFACE TEMPERATURE CLOUD COVER SOIL MOISTURE LAND COVER CLASSIFICATION AND CHANGE AND WATER QUALITY. WE SUBMIT THAT GLOBE AND THIS PROJECT ADVANCE ALL FOUR CS ALONG WITH INCREASING STUDENTS' UNDERSTANDING OF SCIENCE AND THE SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY PROCESS AND PROVIDING SCAFFOLDING FOR TEACHERS' PROFESSIONAL LEARNING IN THESE TOPICS. THE PROPOSED PROJECT FOSTERS THE ENTIRE AUTHENTIC RESEARCH EXPERIENCE FROM GENERATING AN ANSWERABLE RESEARCH QUESTION TO COMMUNICATING RESULTS. THIS FINAL STEP THE PEER AND SCIENTIST REVIEW PROCESS TAKES PLACE AT ONE OF SIX REGIONAL GLOBE STUDENT RESEARCH SYMPOSIA (SRS) WHERE TEAMS OF STUDENTS MEET STEM PROFESSIONALS AND RECEIVE RECOGNITION FOR THE QUALITY OF THEIR RESEARCH. DURING THE 2016 AND 2017 PILOT EFFORT PRELIMINARY EVIDENCE EMERGED THAT THESE EVENTS INCREASED STUDENT EFFICACY IN SCIENCE AND SCIENCE PRACTICES (SOLOMON&GENGARELLY 2017). THROUGH THE PROPOSED CONTINUATION AND EXPANSION OF GLOBE SRS MORE STUDENT WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE RESEARCH SHARPEN SCIENCE COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND GAIN CONFIDENCE IN HOW SCIENCE IS CONDUCTED THUS CONTRIBUTING TO A GENERATION OF SCIENTIFICALLY-LITERATE CITIZENS. THE SRS SUPPORT THE GLOBE VISION "TO BETTER UNDERSTAND SUSTAIN AND IMPROVE EARTH'S ENVIRONMENT." GLOBE SRS WILL BRING STUDENTS TOGETHER TO BUILD COMMUNITY BY CONNECTING THEM WITH OTHER ASPIRING SCIENTISTS AND GLOBE ALUMNI IN STEM FIELDS AND FURTHER DEVELOPING THEIR IDENTITIES AS SCIENTISTS. THE PROJECT SUPPORTS CLASSROOM TEACHERS WITH PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND RESOURCES PROMOTES GLOBE AS A MODEL FOR TEACHING SCIENCE PRACTICES AND PROVIDES A FRAMEWORK FOR TEACHER-TO-TEACHER AND TEACHER-TO-GLOBE PARTNERSHIP CONSULTATION AND MENTORSHIP. THE PRIMARY AUDIENCE INCLUDES 63 TEACHERS WHO ARE DEVELOPING SCIENCE RESEARCH SKILLS IN THEIR STUDENTS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE CLASSROOM AND BRINGING A TEAM OF STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SRS. FOSTERING COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS AND COLLABORATION BETWEEN PARTICIPANTS IS A KEY COMPONENT TO THE GLOBE SRS SUCCESS.
