WE PROPOSE TO PROVIDE SATELLITE SUPPORT FOR NASA S UPCOMING CAMP2EX FIELD CAMPAIGN FOCUSED ON THE INTERACTIONS BETWEEN CLOUDS AND AEROSOLS AND THE IMPACT ON PRECIPITATION IN SOUTH EAST ASIA. THE CAMPAIGN IS SCHEDULED DEPLOY IN THE PHILIPPINES NEAR MANILA IN 2018. THE PROPOSED EFFORT PROVIDES COMPREHENSIVE SATELLITE SUPPORT FOR BOTH THE MISSION PLANNING AND NEAR REAL-TIME FLIGHT OPERATIONS AS WELL AS CUSTOMIZED PRODUCTS TAILORED TO THE SCIENTIFIC OBJECTIVES OF THE EXPERIMENT. A MAJOR FOCUS OF THIS EFFORT WILL BE PROVIDING IMAGERY CLOUD AND AEROSOL PRODUCTS GENERATED FROM THE ADVANCED HIMAWARI IMAGER (AHI) FLOWN ON THE JAPANESE GEOSTATIONARY HIMAWARI-8 SATELLITE PLATFORM. AHI IS ESSENTIALLY A COPY OF THE NOAA NEXT GENERATION GOES-R IMAGER AND PROVIDES MODIS LIKE SPECTRAL COVERAGE IN THE VISIBLE AND NEAR IR BUT IN GEOSTATIONARY ORBIT WITH A NOMINAL 2 KM RESOLUTION. AHI CAN OBSERVE A FULL DISK (EARTH) EVERY 10 MINUTES AND SIMULTANEOUSLY SCAN SMALLER REGIONS WITH TEMPORAL RESOLUTIONS AS HIGH AS 1 MINUTE. AS WILL BE PRESENTED THIS CAPABILITY WILL PROVIDE HIGH TEMPORAL (10 MINUTE) CLOUD AND AEROSOL PROPERTIES OVER THE CAMP2EX DOMAIN PROVIDING NOT ONLY THE INSTANTANEOUS RETRIEVALS DURING THE FLIGHTS BUT ALSO THE ABILITY TO CHARACTERIZE THE CLOUD AND AEROSOL VARIABILITY THROUGHOUT THE DAY. THIS UNIQUE CAPABILITY WILL PROVIDE CHARACTERIZATION OF THE CLOUD AND AEROSOL LIFE CYCLE A PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE PROPOSAL. IN ADDITION TO AHI THE EFFORT WILL SUPPORT POLAR OBSERVATIONS FROM THE A-TRAIN (MODIS AND AIRS) TERRA MODIS S-NPP (VIIRS CRIS AND ATMS) AND GPM PLATFORMS. THIS WILL INCLUDE IMAGERY AEROSOL AND PRECIPITATION AND CLOUD PRODUCTS. LEVERAGING OUR EXPERTISE COLLOCATING SATELLITE AND AIRCRAFT OBSERVATIONS WE WILL PROVIDE A MERGED SATELLITE AND AIRCRAFT PRODUCT THAT CONTAINS PHYSICALLY COLLOCATED L1B (AIRCRAFT AND SATELLITE OBSERVATIONS) AND L2 PRODUCTS.
