UNDER THE DIRECTION OF PI ANDREW HOWARD HOWARD ISAACSON PERFORMS OF NUMBER OF ROLLS THAT ARE CENTRAL TO THE PLANNING EXECUTION AND ARCHIVING OF THE HIGH-RESOLUTION SPECTROSCOPY AT KECK OBSERVATORY. THESE DATA ARE ACQUIRED FOR THE PROJECT CALLED 'PRECISE MASSES FOR K2'S ICE GIANTS OBSERVED BY HST AND SPITZER' (PI: IAN CROSSFIELD). THE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT IS TO DETERMINE PRECISE MASSES FOR A SET OF TRANSITING PLANETS USING OBSERVATIONS WITH THE KECK TELESCOPE. HOWARD ISAACSON'S ROLE IN THIS PROJECT IS: SCHEDULING OBSERVERS TO CARRY OUT THE KECK OBSERVATIONS. SCHEDULING ASTRONOMICAL TARGETS TO BE OBSERVED IN PARTICULAR NIGHTS WITH THE KECK TELESCOPE. CONDUCTING THE OBSERVATIONS AT NIGHT WITH THE KECK TELESCOPE. HOWARD ENSURES DATA QUALITY AFTER ALL NIGHTS OF OBSERVATION AT THE KECK TELESCOPE INCLUDING DATA REDUCTION AND ARCHIVING OF BOTH THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY DATA PRODUCTS. O PRIMARY DATA PRODUCTS INCLUDE REDUCED HIGH-RESOLUTION SPECTRA OF STARS USED IN BOTH CALCULATION OF PRECISE RADIAL VELOCITIES AND STELLAR PROPERTY DETERMINATION. O SECONDARY DATA PRODUCTS INCLUDE THOSE THAT RESULT FROM THE HIGH-RESOLUTION SPECTRA AND ARE USED BY BOTH PRIMARY GROUP MEMBERS AND EXTENDED COLLABORATORS. THESE INCLUDE STELLAR SYSTEMIC RADIAL VELOCITIES AND STELLAR ACTIVITY METRICS. O ARCHIVING INCLUDES DISTRIBUTION OF THE DATA BOTH PRIMARY AND SECONDARY PRODUCTS. O PRIMARY AND SECONDARY DATA PRODUCTS ARE DISTRIBUTED WITHIN 2 WORKING DAYS AFTER THE ACTUAL OBSERVATIONS. SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS INCLUDE WORK ON THE LEGACY COMPUTER PROGRAMS THAT ARE CRITICAL TO MAINTAINING THE RADIAL VELOCITY PRECISION OF 1 M/S AS WELL AS NEW DEVELOPMENT TOOLS THAT MONITOR DATA QUALITY.
