THE OMPS LIMB ONBOARD SUOMI-NPP COLLECTED ITS FIRST EARTH LIMB MEASUREMENT IN JANUARY 10 2012 AND CONTINUES TO PROVIDE DAILY GLOBAL MEASUREMENTS OF OZONE AND AEROSOL PROFILES FROM THE CLOUD TOP UP TO 60 AND 40 KM RESPECTIVELY. ALTHOUGH OMPS AEROSOL PROFILES DATA PRODUCT WAS NOT SELECTED THE LAST ROSES CALL THE OMPS OZONE SCIENCE TEAM CONTINUED PRODUCING AN AEROSOL PRODUCT THAT WAS MAINLY DESIGNED FOR CORRECTING THE RETRIEVED OZONE PROFILES AND LEVEL 1G RADIANCE DIAGNOSTICS. WE WILL PROPOSE TO DEVELOP AN ALGORITHM TO RETRIEVE A HIGH QUALITY AEROSOL EXTINCTION PROFILES AND PARTICLE SIZE INFORMATION FROM SUOMI NPP OMPS LP MEASUREMENTS. THE PROPOSED RESEARCH RESPONDS TO A SOLICITATION S REQUEST FOR DEVELOPING THE REFINED AND/OR ALTERNATIVE DATA PRODUCTS NEEDED TO ENSURE HIGH-QUALITY DATA RECORDS FOR EARTH SYSTEM SCIENCE AND APPLICATIONS THAT ENABLE CONTINUITY WITH EOS DATA PRODUCTS SPECIFICALLY AEROSOL CONCENTRATION VERTICAL PROFILES. WE EXPECT THE PROPOSED RESEARCH TO IMPROVE THE EXISTING OMPS LP AEROSOL ALGORITHM BY IMPROVING THE AEROSOL EXTINCTION RETRIEVAL SCHEME AND THE AEROSOL SIZE DISTRIBUTION INFORMATION. WE ALSO PLAN TO FURTHER IMPROVE THE AEROSOL RETRIEVAL IN THE UPPER TROPOSPHERE/ LOWER STRATOSPHERE UT/LS REGION BY ADDING AN IMPROVED CLOUD DETECTION ALGORITHM.
