I WILL PERFORM LABORATORY EXPERIMENTS TO INVESTIGATE THE HABITABILITY OF TEMPERATE EXOPLANETS AROUND M-DWARF STARS. I WILL DETERMINE THE RATE OF HAZE PRODUCTION AND MEASURE THE PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF THE HAZE PRODUCED IN AN ATMOSPHERIC CHAMBER THAT SIMULATES THE HIGH ENERGY RADIATION OF AN M-DWARF. FURTHERMORE I WILL INVESTIGATE THE EFFECT THAT THE PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF THESE HAZES HAVE ON COMPUTATIONAL MODEL OUTPUTS FOR ATMOSPHERES AND THEIR EFFECTIVE HABITABILITY. MY EXPERIMENTS WILL PROVIDE SORELY NEEDED DATA IN A NOVEL PLANETARY TEMPERATURE RANGE WHICH WILL ONLY BE INCREASINGLY POPULATED ONCE NASA'S TRANSITING EXOPLANET SURVEY SATELLITE AND THE JAMES WEBB SPACE TELESCOPE BEGIN OBSERVATIONS. MY EXPERIMENTS WILL HELP FURTHER NASA'S GOAL OF CHARACTERIZING NEARBY EXOPLANETS AND WILL FOCUS ON ONE OF NASA'S GUIDING SCIENTIFIC QUESTIONS: ARE WE ALONE.
