THE MINOR PLANETS BEYOND THE ORBIT OF NEPTUNE (TNOS) HAVE UNUSUAL ORBITS UNEXPLAINED BY THE CURRENT MODEL OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM. THE MOST POPULAR THEORY TO DESCRIBE THESE ANOMALIES IS THE EXISTENCE OF A `PLANET 9' AN INCLINED AND ECCENTRIC NEPTUNE-MASS PLANET LYING WELL BEYOND THE ORBIT OF NEPTUNE. IN THIS PROPOSAL WE ADDRESS A VERY DIFFERENT THEORY. IN OUR THEORY THESE OBSERVATIONS CAN BE EXPLAINED BY THE SELF-GRAVITY OF THE TNOS THEMSELVES VIA A SELF-GRAVITY INSTABILITY. WE PROPOSE TO EXPLORE THE PHYSICS OF THE INSTABILITY AND ITS IMPLICATIONS FOR THE SOLAR SYSTEM WITH N-BODY SIMULATIONS USING THE REBOUND INTEGRATOR FRAMEWORK. THE PROBLEM IS TOO COMPUTATIONALLY EXPENSIVE TO BE INTEGRATED DIRECTLY AND THUS IS BROKEN INTO PARTS EACH APPRAISING A DIFFERENT ASPECT OF THE SYSTEM. IN THIS PROPOSAL WE ADDRESS THE NASA SCIENCE MISSION DIRECTORATE (SMD) TO DETERMINE THE FORMATION AND EVOLUTION OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM. IN PARTICULAR IT WILL EXPLORE A MECHANISM TO EXPLAIN THE ORIGIN OF PECULIARITIES IN THE ORBITS OF TNOS WITH LARGE SEMI-MAJOR AXES
