QUANTIFYING SNOW CAPTURED IN FOREST CANOPIES IS AN IMPORTANT COMPONENT OF HYDROLOGICAL MODELS THAT PREDICT STREAMFLOW. THIS IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTANDING EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON THE WATER CYCLE LIKE MORE FREQUENT RAIN-ON-SNOW EVENTS. TO DATE MOST SNOW INTERCEPTION MEASUREMENTS HAVE BEEN POINT-BASED OR INDIRECT RESOURCE INTENSIVE AND DIFFICULT TO INCLUDE IN LANDSCAPESCALE MODELS. DIRECT REMOTE SENSING OF SNOW INTERCEPTION IS POSSIBLE WITH INCREASINGLY PRECISE AND AFFORDABLE TERRESTRIAL LASER SCANNING (TLS) AND POSSIBLY UNMANNED AERIAL SYSTEM (UAS) PHOTOGRAMMETRY.
