RESEARCH UNDER THE NSTRF WILL BE CONTINUED IN THE FALL QUARTER OF 2018 AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA LOS ANGELES (UCLA) WITH DR. LIHUA JIN AS PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR AND FACULTY ADVISOR. DURING THE FALL WINTER AND SPRING QUARTERS OF THE 2018/2019 ACADEMIC YEAR ACADEMIC MILESTONES INCLUDE COMPLETED COURSES IN ACCORDANCE WITH REQUIREMENTS TO PREPARE FOR QUALIFYING EXAMS EXPECTED TO BE TAKEN THE SECOND ACADEMIC YEAR COMPLETED AT UCLA. IT IS EXPECTED THAT THREE COURSES WILL BE COMPLETED PER QUARTER TOTALING NINE COURSES. AN APPOINTMENT WITH AN ACADEMIC ADVISOR WILL SOON CLARIFY THE SPECIFIC COURSES TO BE TAKEN. DURING THE 2018/2019 ACADEMIC YEAR MILESTONES IN RESEARCH INCLUDE A COMPREHENSIVE LITERATURE REVIEW ON ELECTROSTATIC ADHESION GECKO ADHESION ALTERNATIVE ADHESION TECHNOLOGIES GRIPPER DEVICES AND DESIGN OF DYNAMIC DEVICES SUCH AS A GRIPPER FOR SPACE APPLICATIONS. FROM THIS LITERATURE REVIEW PRELIMINARY DESIGNS OF GRIPPER DEVICES WILL BE COMPLETED. FURTHER RESEARCH OF STRETCHABLE CIRCUITS IN A SPACE ENVIRONMENT WILL DETERMINE IF THE FABRICATION OF ELECTROSTATIC ADHESION PADS WILL BE FEASIBLE AS A PROJECT. SIMILARLY RESEARCH ON PROPERTIES OF CLOTH AND CIRCUITRY WILL DETERMINE THE FEASIBILITY OF MANUFACTURING ELECTROSTATIC ADHESION CLOTH.
