THIS STATEMENT OF WORK IS SUBMITTED AS PART OF THE TRANSFER OF NASA AWARD NNX16AD58G FROM UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO TO THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR ATMOSPHERIC RESEARCH (NCAR) DUE TO THE CHANGE IN INSTITUTION OF THE PI. THE ORIGINAL PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO AWARD WAS 1/14/2016 - 1/13/2020. THE FIRST TWO YEARS OF THE AWARD WERE PERFORMED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO AND THE FINAL TWO YEARS WILL BE COMPLETED AT NCAR. WORK ITEMS LISTED BELOW ARE REMAINING WORK FROM THE ORIGINAL AWARD NOT COMPLETED AT U. OF COLORADO. THE SCIENTIFIC/TECHNICAL/MANAGEMENT SECTION OF THE ORIGINAL PROPOSAL HAS BEEN INCLUDED FOR REFERENCE AND GIVES THE TECHNICAL BACKGROUND AND MOTIVATION FOR THE PROPOSED WORK. THE ORIGINAL PROPOSAL INCLUDED TWO TRACKS: (1) INTEROPERABILITY OF THE MODELING ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION LAYER (MAPL) AND NATIONAL UNIFIED OPERATIONAL PREDICTION CAPABILITY (NUOPC) SOFTWARE LAYERS AND (2) INTEGRATION OF EARTH SYSTEM MODELING FRAMEWORK (ESMF) DATA STRUCTURES AND REGRIDDING INTO MAPL. SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE PROPOSED WORK WILL BRING NASA MODELE AND GEOS-5 INTO A BROADER POOL OF INTEROPERABLE ESMF-BASED SYSTEMS THAT INCLUDES COMMUNITY EARTH SYSTEM MODEL (CESM) HYBRID COORDINATE OCEAN MODEL (HYCOM) NAVY GLOBAL AND REGIONAL MODELS MODULAR OCEAN MODEL VERSION 5/6 (MOM5/6) THE NOAA UNIFIED FORECAST SYSTEM AND OTHER EARTH SYSTEM MODEL COMPONENTS. MERGING THE MAPL AND NUOPC CONVENTIONS WILL ENABLE NASA GODDARD INSTITUTE FOR SPACE STUDIES (GISS) AND GODDARD SPACE FLIGHT CENTER (GSFC) TO SHARE MODEL COMPONENTS MORE EASILY AND WILL ENCOURAGE GREATER KNOWLEDGE SHARING AND COLLABORATION BETWEEN THE CENTERS AND WITH THE BROADER US MODELING COMMUNITY.
