THE OVERALL GOAL OF THE PROPOSED WORK IS TO USE PMW DATA TO FILL AN OBSERVATIONAL GAP IN TROPICAL CYCLOGENESIS RESEARCH AND SPECIFICALLY USE THOSE OBSERVATIONS TO QUANTIFY RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN PRECIPITATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL FORCING THROUGHOUT THE PRE-GENESIS STAGE. UNIQUE ASPECTS OF THIS RESEARCH INCLUDE QUANTIFYING THE TEMPORAL EVOLUTION OF THE PRECIPITATION ORGANIZATION OF DEVELOPING DISTURBANCES IDENTIFYING THE SENSITIVITY OF PRECIPITATION ORGANIZATION TO THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROPERTIES IN WHICH THEY ARE EMBEDDED COMPARING THAT ORGANIZATION TO THOSE IN NONDEVELOPING DISTURBANCES AND QUANTIFYING THE FEEDBACK OF PRECIPITATION ON INNER CORE THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES (SUCH AS HUMIDIFICATION MOISTENING AND WARMING). FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS PROJECT ALSO COMPARES PRECIPITATION INVOLVED IN THE PRE-FORMATION STAGE AND IN NONDEVELOPING DISTURBANCES GLOBALLY WITH A GOAL OF IDENTIFYING WHETHER THERE ARE UNIQUE CHARACTERISTICS (OR PATHWAYS) TO GENESIS IN ONE BASIN COMPARED TO ANOTHER.
