THIS PROPOSAL WILL FUND GRADUATE STUDENT RESEARCH ALYSON BARKER TO WORK WITH SYLVAIN GUIRIEC AT GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY IN COLLABORATION WITH JEREMY PERKINS AND JUDITH RACUSIN TO STUDY MULTIWAVELENGTH OBSERVATIONS AND ANALYSIS OF ENERGETIC GAMMA-RAY BURSTS DETECTED BY THE FERMI LARGE AREA TELESCOPE USING DATA FROM FERMI SWIFT AND OTHER FACILITIES. THIS WILL ALSO FUND HER WORK ON DETECTOR DEVELOPMENT FOR FUTURE GAMMA-RAY BURST MISSIONS LIKE BURSTCUBE AND AMEGO. THIS GRANT WILL FUND ALYSON BARKER A SECOND YEAR GRADUATE STUDENT AT GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY WITH EXPERIENCE IN PHYSICS PRINCIPLES AND DETECTOR DEVELOPMENT. SHE HAS BEEN WORKING AT GSFC FOR A YEAR ON GAMMA-RAY DETECTORS FOR THE AMEGO MISSION AND IS THE RECIPIENT OF A MATHER FELLOWSHIP. PROFESSOR GUIRIEC WILL SERVE AS HER ACADEMIC ADVISOR AND DR. PERKINS WILL SERVE AS HER RESEARCH ADVISOR. PROFESSOR GUIRIEC IS ONE OF THE WORLD S LEADING EXPERTS IN UNDERSTANDING GAMMA-RAY BURSTS AND DR. PERKINS IS THE PI OF THE BURSTCUBE MISSION; A CUBESAT TO LOOK FOR THE GAMMA-RAY BURSTS ASSOCIATED WITH GRAVITATIONAL WAVE EVENTS. THEREFORE A GRADUATE STUDENT AT GEORGE WASHINGTON IS AN IDEAL CANDIDATE TO WORK AT GODDARD ON GAMMA-RAY BURSTS AND DETECTOR DEVELOPMENT. FURTHERMORE ALYSON BARKER IS THE IDEAL GRADUATE STUDENT DUE TO HER EXPERIENCE IN DETECTORS AND HER RECENT WORK AT GSFC. THE PURPOSE OF THIS GRANT IS TO CONTINUE TO FUND ALYSON S RESEARCH TIME WHICH WILL OCCUR AT GSFC. ALYSON IS OBTAINING A PH.D. FROM GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY AND IT IS NOT FEASIBLE TO FUND HER TIME THROUGH A COMPETITIVE GRANT OR THROUGH A COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT
