THIS PROJECT IS RELEVANT TO THE NASA AND THE INSIGHT MISSION'S OVERALL OBJECTIVE TO "UNDERSTAND THE FORMATION AND EVOLUTION OF TERRESTRIAL PLANETS THROUGH INVESTIGATION OF THE INTERIOR STRUCTURE AND PROCESSES OF MARS." SPECIFICALLY INSIGHT SEIS DATA IS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE OUR OBJECTIVES TO CHARACTERIZE THE STRENGTH AND ORIGIN OF SCATTERING WITHIN THE MARTIAN CRUST AND MANTLE. OUR INVESTIGATION WILL BROADEN PARTICIPATION IN THE MISSION BY BRINGING A U.S.-BASED INSTITUTION EARLY CAREER SCIENTIST (SCHMERR) ON TO THE TEAM AND INVOLVE A FEMALE PHD GRADUATE STUDENT (MARUSIAK) AND A POSTDOCTORAL SCHOLAR WITH INSIGHT TEAM ACTIVITIES. THE MODELING TOOLS WE DEVELOP TO ANALYZE INSIGHT DATA WILL BE USED TO UNDERSTAND SCATTERING ON MARS AND OTHER WORLDS IN THE SOLAR SYSTEM THEREBY ADDRESSING THE GOAL OF THE INSIGHT PARTICIPATING SCIENTIST PROGRAM TO "MAXIMIZE THE CONTRIBUTION OF INSIGHT TO FUTURE EXPLORATION AND UNDERSTANDING OF MARS AND OTHER WORLDS WITHIN OUR SOLAR SYSTEM."
