CONSERVATION INTERNATIONAL (CI) HAS DEVELOPED THE TRENDS.EARTH (HTTP://TRENDS.EARTH) TOOL TO SUPPORT COUNTRIES IN MEETING THEIR COMMITMENTS TO THE UNITED NATIONS CONVENTION TO COMBAT DESERTIFICATION (UNCCD) AND TO FACILITATE CALCULATION OF THE INDICATOR FOR THE ACHIEVEMENT OF LAND DEGRADATION NEUTRALITY SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL (SDG) 15.3. TRENDS.EARTH IS AN INNOVATIVE TOOL THAT LEVERAGES GOOGLE EARTH ENGINE TO ALLOW USERS EVEN THOSE WITH LIMITED REMOTE SENSING AND GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS) EXPERTISE TO PROCESS AND USE EARTH OBSERVATION (EO) DATA SUCH AS LANDSAT AND MODIS IMAGERY TO CALCULATE SDG INDICATORS. TO FURTHER ENABLE THE USAGE OF EO DATA IN SUPPORT OF THE SDGS CI WILL WORK WITH NASA TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT AN APPROACH FOR CALCULATION OF SDG INDICATOR 11.3.1 THE RATIO OF LAND CONSUMPTION RATE TO POPULATION GROWTH RATE . CI WILL WORK WITH 10 PILOT COUNTRIES (ECUADOR BRAZIL MOROCCO UGANDA TANZANIA KENYA SOUTH AFRICA MADAGASCAR CAMBODIA AND INDONESIA SEE FIGURE 1) IN WHICH NASA AND CI HAVE EXISTING RELATIONSHIPS TO PILOT THE METHOD. CI WILL THEN IMPLEMENT IT IN THE TRENDS.EARTH TOOL TO ALLOW CALCULATION OF INDICATOR 11.3.1 GLOBALLY FROM 30 M LANDSAT IMAGERY AND POPULATION DATA DEVELOPED BY THE CENTER FOR INTERNATIONAL EARTH SCIENCE INFORMATION NETWORK (CIESIN).
