DR. HIGGINSON WILL SUPERVISE STUDENT EMILY MASON S WORK ON CORONAL RAIN ITS INTERACTION WITH CORONAL HOLE BOUNDARIES AND IMPLICATIONS FOR SOLAR WIND FORMATION. DR. HIGGINSON RECENTLY LEFT THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN TO JOIN JHU APPLIED PHYSICS LAB TO SUPPORT PARKER SOLAR PROBE IN THE LEADERSHIP ROLE OF THE DEPUTY PROJECT SCIENTIST. THE REQUESTED FUNDS WERE ORIGINALLY SENT TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN TO SUPPORT HER RESEARCH ON SOLAR WIND FORMATION A PROJECT THAT SHE WAS COLLABORATING ON WITH EMILY MASON. BECAUSE DR. HIGGINSON IS NOW FULLY SUPPORTED IN HER POSITION AT JHU APPLIED PHYSICS LAB SHE WILL NOW USE THESE FUNDS TO SUPPORT THE CONTINUATION OF EMILY MASON S WORK ON THIS TOPIC WHICH WILL CULMINATE IN THE COMPLETION OF EMILY MASON S PHD AT THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA. EMILY MASON S RESEARCH WILL DIRECTLY CONTRIBUTE TO ADVANCING THE KEY SCIENCE GOALS OF NASAS PARKER SOLAR PROBE MISSION NAMELY TO UNDERSTAND THE ORIGIN OF THE SOLAR WIND. DR. HIGGINSON WILL ENSURE THAT MS. MASON MAKES ADEQUATE PROGRESS ON THIS RESEARCH AND CONTRIBUTES TO THIS IMPORTANT SCIENTIFIC EFFORT. THIS WORK WILL BE PUBLISHED IN TWO PAPERS ONE IN YEAR 1 AND ONE IN YEAR 2.
