IN THIS PROJECT WE WILL QUANTIFY SEASONAL FRESHWATER DISCHARGE AND DISSOLVED ORGANIC CARBON (DOC) EXPORTS TO COASTAL AREAS FROM THE YUKON RIVER NORTH AND EAST TO THE MACKENZIE RIVER. OUR PROJECT WILL FOCUS ON UNDERSTANDING SPATIO-TEMPORAL VARIABILITY AND TRENDS OVER THE RECENT PAST FOCUSING ON THE PERIOD 1980-PRESENT. TO ACCOMPLISH PROJECT OBJECTIVES WE WILL USE A COUPLED PERMAFROST HYDROLOGY AND CARBON PROCESS MODEL TO INVESTIGATE THE MOBILIZATION OF SOIL ORGANIC CARBON TO STREAM NETWORKS. THE PERMAFROST WATER BALANCE MODEL (PWBM) THE CORE COMPONENT OF THE MODELING FRAMEWORK WILL BE AUGMENTED WITH A NEW RIVER ROUTING SUBMODEL AND DIGITAL RIVER DRAINAGE NETWORK AT 1 KM RESOLUTION. WE WILL PRODUCE THE RIVER NETWORK FROM THE NEW POLAR DEM AVAILABLE FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA POLAR GEOSPATIAL CENTER. THE HIGH RESOLUTION SIMULATIONS WILL INCLUDE NEW SURFACE WATER PARAMETERIZATIONS WE WILL DERIVED FROM THE ABOVE SURFACE WATER PRODUCT.
