THOUGH PASSIVE MICROWAVE OBSERVATIONS HAVE BEEN EXTENSIVELY USED IN ESTIMATING PRECIPITATION THEY ARE STILL UNDERUTILIZED IN MONITORING THE GLOBAL INTENSE CONVECTION. IT IS WELL KNOWN THAT ICE SCATTERING SIGNATURES AT HIGH FREQUENCY CHANNELS ARE RELATED TO THE CONVECTIVE INTENSITY YET THERE IS NO PRODUCT TO QUANTIFY SEVERITY OF CONVECTIVE SYSTEMS USING THESE VALUABLE OBSERVATIONS. THIS IS MAINLY BECAUSE THERE IS LACK OF ALGORITHMS TO QUANTITATIVELY LINK THE PASSIVE MICROWAVE OBSERVATIONS FROM MULTIPLE CONSTELLATION SATELLITES TO THE VARIOUS SEVERE WEATHER PHENOMENON SUCH AS HAIL AND LIGHTNING. TO FILL THIS GAP THIS PROJECT UTILIZES IMPROVED PRECIPITATION FEATURE DATABASES TO ESTABLISH ALGORITHMS TO QUANTIFY THE SEVERITY OF CONVECTIVE SYSTEMS USING PASSIVE MICROWAVE OBSERVATIONS.
