THE SOLAR WIND CHARGE EXCHANGE (SWCX) X-RAY EMISSION IN THE XMM BAND CANNOT BE CALCULATED FROM FIRST PRINCIPLES DUE MOSTLY TO THE LACK OF MEASURED CROSS-SECTIONS ( I) FOR MANY ION SPECIES. WE PROPOSE TO USE THE EPIC DETECTORS TO MEASURE THE SWCX EMISSION WHERE IT IS BRIGHTEST THE SUB-SOLAR REGION OF EARTH S MAGNETOSHEATH (ITS NOSE). WE WILL MEASURE THE EFFECTIVE CROSS-SECTIONS FOR 0.1 KEV WIDE BANDS CONTAINING MANY BLENDED LINES FROM 0.35 KEV TO 0.7 KEV AS WELL AS CONFIRM LABORATORY-DERIVED I FOR THE STRONG O LINES. ALTHOUGH THE SWCX IS INTERESTING IN ITSELF THESE MEASUREMENTS ARE ESSENTIAL FOR REMOVING SWCX CONTAMINATION FROM STUDIES OF THE GALACTIC HALO THE FAINT DIFFUSE ISM AND THE LOCAL HOT BUBBLE (LHB).
