THE PROPOSED STUDY WILL INVESTIGATE THE POTENTIAL OF USING SATELLITE-RETRIEVED DATA FOR MONITORING CHANGES IN ATMOSPHERIC COMPOSITION DUE TO ANTHROPOGENIC EMISSIONS IN REMOTE AREAS WITH LOW BUT DETECTABLE BACKGROUND AEROSOL CONCENTRATIONS. THE GOAL OF THE STUDY IS TO CHARACTERIZE THE IMPACT OF INCREASED ARCTIC SHIPPING AND NEW OIL/GAS ACTIVITIES ON THE ATMOSPHERIC COMPOSITION OVER THE OCEAN AND COASTAL AREAS NORTH OF 60ON IN HOT SPOTS OF SHIP TRAFFIC AND NEW OIL/GAS ACTIVITIES BY MEANS OF RETRIEVED AEROSOL DATA. THIS GOAL INCLUDES IDENTIFYING LIMITATIONS SO AS TO NOT OVER INTERPRET THE DATA.
