THIS PROJECT WILL LEAD THE IN SITU BIOGEOCHEMICAL MEASUREMENTS MADE FROM THE SHIP AND WAVEGLIDER PLATFORMS. HER GROUP WILL INTEGRATE THE RBR CTD AND BIO-OPTICS PACKAGE ON THE WAVEGLIDER TEST AND CALIBRATE SENSORS IN THE LAB AND FIELD AND DELIVER BIO-OPTICAL PROXIES TO ISOLATE RATES OF BIOLOGICAL GROWTH AND LOSSES ISOLATING THESE FROM VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL ADVECTION AND INFERRING THE VERTICAL TRANSPORT OF BIOLOGICAL PROPERTIES AND NUTRIENTS BETWEEN THE PYCNOCLINE AND THE MIXED LAYER. THIS WORK REQUIRES WAVEGLIDERS WITH BIO-OPTICAL AND -GEOCHEMICAL SENSORS AND RESEARCH VESSEL WITH CTD-ROSETTE. BIOOPTICS ON A TOWED-BODY LAGRANGIAN FLOAT(S) AND GLIDERS ARE ALSO IMPORTANT FOR THE ANALYSIS.
