THIS UNSOLICITED PROPOSAL FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL FLORIDA CENTRAL FLORIDA REMOTE SENSING LABORATORY (CFRSL) IS TO IMPROVE THE LEGACY TRMM MICROWAVE IMAGER (TMI) BRIGHTNESS TEMPERATURE PRODUCT TRMM 1B11 VERSION-8 (GPM V05). THIS PROPOSAL ADDRESSES APPARENT CALIBRATION DEFICIENCIES DISCOVERED IN THE CURRENT TMI TB PRODUCT AND REPORTED TO THE INTER-SATELLITE CALIBRATION WORKING GROUP (X-CAL) AT THE PMM SCIENCE TEAM MEETING IN OCT. 2018. SUBSEQUENT INVESTIGATIONS IN CONSULTATION WITH THE XCAL TEAM REVEALS THAT THE INCORRECT EARTH INCIDENCE ANGLE (EIA) WAS USED FOR THE 10 GHZ V-POL CHANNEL WHEN DERIVING THE TMI EMISSIVE REFLECTOR PHYSICAL TEMPERATURE AND CORRESPONDING TB CORRECTION IMPLEMENTED IN THE TRMM 1B11 COUNTS TO TB ALGORITHM. WE PROPOSE TO CORRECT THIS ERROR BY REPEATING THE ORIGINAL SIGNAL PROCESSING WITH THE CORRECT EIA. ALSO WE PROPOSE TO PERFORM A COMPREHENSIVE XCAL COMPARISON WITH WINDSAT AND GMI AND TO PERFORM SEVERAL ADDITIONAL QUALITY CHECKS.
