THE CLOUDS AEROSOL AND MONSOON PROCESSES-PHILIPPINES EXPERIMENT (CAMP2EX) IS A PROPOSED NASA AIRBORNE MISSION SCHEDULED FOR SUMMER 2019 TO CHARACTERIZE THE ROLE OF ANTHROPOGENIC AND NATURAL AEROSOL PARTICLES IN MODULATING THE FREQUENCY AND AMOUNT OF WARM AND MIXED PHASE PRECIPITATION IN THE VICINITY OF THE PHILIPPINES DURING THE SOUTHWEST MONSOON. AS DESCRIBED IN THE CAMP2EX WHITE PAPER INTERTWINED RESEARCH TASKS FOR THE STUDY CENTER AROUND THE AREAS OF: (1) AEROSOL AND CLOUD MICROPHYSICS (2) AEROSOL AND CLOUD RADIATION AND (3) METEOROLOGY RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN AEROSOL AND CLOUD LIFECYCLE. THESE WILL BE ADDRESSED THROUGH INTENSIVE IN SITU AIRCRAFT MEASUREMENTS AND ALIGNMENT WITH SATELLITE OBSERVATIONS. AN EXPECTED OUTCOME IS IMPROVEMENT IN PREDICTABILITY OF AEROSOL-CLOUD INTERACTIONS THROUGH IMPROVEMENT IN THE MANNER AND DETAIL IN WHICH AEROSOLS ARE REPRESENTED IN MODELS WHICH MAY SIGNIFICANTLY INFLUENCE THEIR RATE OF ACTIVATION (WARM CLOUD CONDENSATION NUCLEI AND COLD CLOUD ICE NUCLEATING PARTICLES) THEIR LOSS THROUGH WARM RAIN PROCESSES AND HENCE THEIR ULTIMATE DISTRIBUTION IN THE ATMOSPHERE. POTENTIAL AEROSOL INFLUENCES ARE MANY WITHIN THE PHILIPPINES ARCHIPELAGO INCLUDING ANTHROPOGENIC POLLUTION BIOMASS BURNING MARINE LONG RANGE TRANSPORTED DUST AND BIOGENIC AEROSOLS AS IMPACTED BY LAND USE AND WEATHER.
