THE SABIA-MAR 1 SATELLITE IS BEING DEVELOPED BY THE ARGENTINA SPACE AGENCY (CONAE) TO PRIMARILY OBSERVE OCEAN COLOR FROM SUN-SYNCHRONOUS ORBIT (10:20 AM OVERPASS TIME) IN GLOBAL AND REGIONAL MODES AT SPATIAL RESOLUTIONS OF 800 AND 200 M WITH A 2-DAY REVISIT. LAUNCH IS PLANNED FOR 2022. ONBOARD CAMERAS (VIS-NIR AND NIR-SWIR) WILL MEASURE THE TOP-OF-ATMOSPHERE REFLECTANCE IN MULTIPLE SPECTRAL BANDS COVERING THE 412-1600 NM RANGE TO GENERATE NORMALIZED WATER-LEAVING RADIANCE CHLOROPHYLL CONCENTRATION PHOTOSYNTHETICALLY AVAILABLE RADIATION (PAR) DIFFUSE ATTENUATION COEFFICIENT FLUORESCENCE LINE HEIGHT AND TURBIDITY (STANDARD PRODUCTS). THE SELECTED ALGORITHM FOR PAR IS THE ONE DEVELOPED BY THE PI FOR SEAWIFS MODIS ETC. AND THE PLAN FOR ATMOSPHERIC CORRECTION IS TO USE THE STANDARD TWO-STEP ALGORITHM ADOPTED BY MOST SATELLITE OCEAN-COLOR PROJECTS. THIS ATMOSPHERIC CORRECTION ALGORITHM HAS SOME LIMITATIONS I.E. IT DOES NOT WORK IN THE PRESENCE OF SUN GLINT AND FAILS IN THE PRESENCE OF ABSORBING AEROSOLS SITUATIONS THAT WILL BE ENCOUNTERED WITH SABIA-MAR OBSERVATIONS. FURTHERMORE IT CANNOT BE DIRECTLY APPLIED BECAUSE THE VIEWING GEOMETRY WILL NOT BE THE SAME FOR ALL SPECTRAL BANDS (E.G. SOME BANDS MAY BE DIFFERENTIALLY AFFECTED BY SUN GLINT).
